the only changes i have to do to my draft are grammar-related! whee!
the downside: i still think i did really awful on it and i’m not really sure how to make it better, argument and content-wise.

a pretty weird pretty day

this past month ive been having a succession of weird days, either because of what happened that day, the emotions i felt, or the weather. but mostly because of the normalcy of insipid days they became weird. yesterday was a very pretty intercession to this string of weirdness, and i started today thinking that its gonna be another pretty day. but today i got picked up by a stranger while basking in the sun, enjoying a cupcake and listening to a street performer sang, and he asked me weird questions, which made my day really really weird.

“are you married”
“no”
“are you planning to get married”
“yes”

the last time a stranger asked me about my marital status, he offered himself for me to marry so that i can get a US citizenship. err.. who goes up to strangers and asks them whether they are married or not, anyways (apart from these two people, apparently). consequently, when he asked for my name, i said that it was amelia, which was not the only lie i told today.
as i was walking away, though, it felt kind of nice to be an amelia, whose phone will always be answered by someone other than herself and who happens to have brought her cousin’s phone by mistake, even if it was only for a few minutes.

today is a very pretty day and im happy. pretty day, pretty city, pretty night. i drank a large cup of iced coffee at noon before i went to class, and my body never responds well to caffeine in a somewhat positive way. because i rarely consume caffeine, it’s very sensitive, and a grande iced coffee from starbucks triggered enough dopamine to make me smile all day and laugh randomly in the hallway between classes.
AND, even though today is a wednesday and i usually hate wednesdays because i have stats on wednesday and i NEVER understand what the professor is saying, i LOVE stats today. the love is probably a spillover effect from the caffeine-induced happiness, but i actually understood every single thing, AND i got 59.5/60 on my assignment. HAH! caffeine is my new drug of choice.
but even without the caffeine today is very very pretty and im glad. i hope tomorrow is just as pretty

mud hut

i just read about a man who sold everything he had to set up a charity and move to a mud hut in uganda. its very laudable, no doubt. but what is it about our lives, with the privileges and luxuries we have: running water, electricity, the web, that makes our lives better and more meaningful than those who spend it in a mud hut?

the more i read his writing on the role of affect in moral development the more i feel like he’s being very inconsistent, repeatedly going back and forth between affect and cognition as having the same structural basis instead of affect as being a product of cognition, and affect as being dependent on cognitive structural development. what is cognitive structural development, anyway.. structure of thought? i think he just didnt care about emotion (much) and mentioned it just for the sake of answering his critics.
kohlberg: moral judgment has a cognitive core
critic: but what about emotion? surely emotion has a role in a person’s morality?
